In its simplest terms a light meter is a device which helps measure the amount of light in order to determine the proper exposure for a photograph. It allows the photographer to determine which shutter speed and f-number should be selected for an optimum exposure, given a particular light situation and film speed. In essence, light meters truly help us as photographer to avoid under-or-over-exposing our subjects with unusual reflectance.
